Marywood Hangs Tight in 9-5 Loss to Montclair State

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University men's lacrosse battled back from a three-goal first quarter deficit but were unable to overcome a defiant Montclair State University in a 9-5 loss on Wednesday.

Ben Meighan scored two goals for the Pacers. John Scibello had a pair of assists with four ground balls.

Gavin Ammlung made his first start of the season in net. He made 16 saves and allowed nine goals.

Dominic Cottone provided five ground balls for the Pacers' defense. Nick Baker had three ground balls.

Marywood's Luke Ament went 7 for 17 from the faceoff-x with seven ground balls.

Montclair had eight different players score goals. Max Morosoff was the lone multigoal scorer with two.

The Red Hawks' Gianni Graziano and John Crank each had four ground balls.

Montclair (4-1) rushed out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Morosoff scored 45 seconds into regulation from Cody Cooper. Ethan Mounier and Louis Azara also stretch the Montclair State lead.

Marywood battled back in the second quarter with unassisted goals from Lucas Wilson and Meighan to cut the halftime deficit to 4-2.

Like the first half, Montclair found the net in the opening minute of the third quarter. Jackson Simons scored 47 seconds after the whistle.

The Pacers (4-2) opened the fourth questarter with consecutive goals for the first time. Dillon Kane turned on a Scibello feed for goal, and Ben Peters made the best of a Sean Bonhag feed for a man-up goal that put Marywood within one (6-5) with 10:25 remaining.

Montclair State closed out the game with three straight goals.

Marywood remains winless all-time in three meetings against the Red Hawks.

The Pacers' decade-best winning streak came to an end at four games.

Marywood travels to the Old Line State to take on FDU-Florham in a neutral site match at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland on Saturday.
