Pacers Sparkle in Second Half to Speed Past Merchant Marine

Natalie Yilanjian leads Pacers with five goals

Kings Point, N.Y. -- Marywood University women's lacrosse overcame a halftime deficit by outscoring the United States Merchant Marine Academy 8-2 in the second half of Saturday's women's lacrosse matchup. The Pacers defeated the Mariners 16-11 in the teams' first-ever meeting. 

Natalie Yilanjian led the Pacers' offense with five goals, eight draw controls and four ground balls. 

Kaitlyn Smith added four goals and five assists. She contributed seven draw controls, five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Avery Meighan notched two goals and two assists. Kortney Harry and Carly Lynch scored a goal and an assist.

Jenny Keagy substituted into the game to make 11 saves in 45 minutes. 

The Mariners (2-2) outshot Marywood by a 32-30 margin. Marywood's defense befuddled the Mariners, holding them to just 50 percent success rate on clears. Merchant Marine had a 36-19 advantage in ground balls. 

Merchant Marine led 9-8 at halftime when Leslie Wysong scored from Lana Hayes. 

Marywood (6-4) evened the score with Yilanjian's goal from Meighan with 12:36 left in the third. Leslie Wysong scored to reclaim the lead for the Mariners. 

Smith fed Kortney Harry a pass to square the score at 10-10. A mere 24 seconds later, Smith scored an unassisted goal at 7:50 in the third. 

Marywood won its third consecutive game. 

The Pacers are idle until Saturday, March 29 when they take on Montclair State.
