Pacers Dust Off Mighty Macs, 21-6

Yilanjian scores a career-high eight goals

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University posted its largest-ever women's lacrosse win over Immaculata University with a 21-6 victory Friday in Atlantic East Conference action. The Pacers outscored the Mighty Macs 9-0 in the second half. 

Marywood (8-6, 2-1) burst out of a slight 7-6 lead with 14 unanswered goals the rest of the way. After Jacki Murray and Carley Oberg scored twice to put Immaculata within one at the 6:53 mark of the second quarter, Jessica Banta scored 30 seconds later on a Kortney Harry assist. Thirty seconds after that, Avery Meighan scored on a Felicia Pescatore assist with 5:53 left. 

The Pacers piled on with three goals in a 49-second span during the final two minutes of the second half. 

Natalie Yilanjian scored a career-high eight goals. She tied teammate Avery Meighan with the fourth-most single-game goals — both coming against the Mighty Macs. Yilanjian added four caused turnovers and three draw controls.

Kaitlyn Smith scored four goals and two assists. She helped defensively with seven draw controls, six ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Avery Meighan provided three goals and two assists for five points. She had seven draw controls.

Kortney Harry had two goals and two assists. Jessica Banta score twice, and Carly Lynch tallied a goal and two assists.

In goal, Jenny Keagy earned the win with five saves. Jenna Scala made a save. Abigail Guarneri made 19 saves for the Mighty Macs.

Marywood outshot the Mighty Macs by a 49-16 margin. The Pacers' press held Immaculata to just a 50 percent clear percentage. Marywood had a 28-16 advantage in ground balls and a 18-13 slight in draw controls.

Immaculata's Murray tallied two goals and an assist. Addison Yackel had six draw controls and four ground balls.

The Mighty Macs (2-13, 0-3) opened with a 2-1 lead when Ava Hoffman and Murrays scored within a minute of each other. 

Marywood leads the series history 17-3. Their previous largest win over the Mighty Macs was a 14-goal differential set twice in 2018. 

The Pacers travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday night.
