Scibello Ignites Pacers to Notch No. 3 Seed

Scibello scores six goals and an assist in second-half comeback

Scranton, Pa. — Playing in potentially his final home game, senior John Scibello led the Marywood University men's lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over Neumann University. The Pacers came back from a three-goal second-half deficit to oust the Knights.

With the win, Marywood secures the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic East Conference tournament. The Pacers will travel to Marymount University on Saturday.

Scibello scored six goals and an assist for seven points to lead the Pacers. He added seven ground balls.

Thomas Carroll, Wil Pieters and Antonio Cortez caused three turnovers. Ben Peters had five ground balls with two assists. Both Cortez and Wil Pieters collected five ground balls. Sean Bonhag and Joseph Keller both earned three ground balls.

Offensively, Ben Meighan totaled two goals and an assist. Dillon Kane scored twice.

Luke Ament earned 10 ground balls from the faceoff-x. Ament had a goal and an assist.

Marywood out-shot Neumann by a 54-38 margin. The Pacers had 54 ground balls to the Knights' 44.

A pair of three-goal runs provided Neumann with a 6-3 cushion at halftime.

Scibello opened the second half with a goal. After Matt Morris sent the lead back up to three, Kane swatted a ground ball above his head into the goal for a 7-5 lead. Scibello cut the deficit to one a minute later.

Marywood (9-8, 3-2) used three-straight goals to surpass the Knights. Scibello fed Meighan a goal to make it a 8-7 deficit at the 3:55 mark of the third quarter. Ament scored six seconds later directly off a faceoff win. Ricky Strobel gave Marywood a 9-8 lead with 2:31 left in the period.

The Knights' Brendan Boschi evened the score at 9-9 with 41 seconds left in the third. Boschi scored his sixth of the game.

Scibello scored twice within a seven-second span to retake the lead. After scoring an unassisted goal with 11:13 left, Ament won a faceoff and dished a pass to Scibello for the goal.

Braden Travaglini made it a one-point game soon after. But Marywood used goals from Logan Sanders and Scibello to establish a 13-10 lead with 2:22 left in the game.

Neumann scored two goals down the stretch but were unable to get a shot off after the faceoff.

The past three meetings between the Pacers and Knights have been decided by just one goal.
