Power outage moved second half to Widener after two-hour delay

Aston, Pa./Chester, Pa. — Third-seeded Marywood University ended its season with an 18-14 loss to No. 2 Neumann University on Saturday in the Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse semifinals. The Pacers finish their season with a 9-8 overall record.

A power outage at Neumann University moved the second half competition to Widener University. Play resumed after a two-hour stoppage.

After falling behind by five goals to begin the game, Marywood scratched back with four unanswered goals.

Marywood led 12-11 late in the third quarter. Neumann went on a 7-1 run over the next 15 minutes to put the game away.

Both Avery Meighan and Kaitlyn Smith led the Pacers with four goals and an assist for five points.

Meighan broke the single-season ground balls and caused turnovers records. She had nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers. She beat Kimberly Commisso's 2012 record with 78 ground balls. Meighan surpassed Mary Ninivaggi's 2014 record with 50 caused turnovers. She added 10 draw controls.

It was the third-most single-game caused turnovers at Marywood.

Alli Duncan had her first career hat trick. Jessica Banta provided a goal and an assist.

Natalie Yilanjian secured six draw controls.

In net, Jenny Keagy finished with a season-high 16 saves.

Neumann outshot Marywood by a 45-32 margin. The Pacers had a 19-17 advantage in draw controls. Marywood committed 29 turnovers to the Knights' 10.

After finding themselves in a five-goal hole, Duncan scored a woman-down goal with 8:34 left in the first half to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Neumann found its grounding with two goals from Fagan and Neve Murphy. Yilanjian slingshotted a Meighan breakaway pass to make it a 7-6 game at halftime.

Following the move to Chester, Marywood scored three straight goals to open the second half. Smith scored back-to-back woman-up goals to tie the game and take the lead.

The two teams went tit-for-tat for six rounds. Smith scored a woman-down goal to take a 12-11 lead with 2:05 left in the third quarter.

Neumann's Alena Catka scored back-to-back goals to begin a run of three goals.
