Marywood Takes Second Place at King's

Wilkes-Barre Twp., Pa. — The Marywood University men's and women's track and field teams both finished second out of seven teams at the King's College Monarch Open on Friday. It was the Pacers' final meet before the Atlantic East Conference championships next weekend. 

The Marywood men edged Misericordia for runner-up with 117 points. The Pacers' women earned 89 points. The host Monarchs won both team standings. 

Marywood won five events — four women and one men. 

Abby Megotz won the 400-meter run with a 1:00.97. Megotz was also fourth in the 200 dash. 

Lany Straub took first for the fourth time this season. She finished first in the 1,500 run with a 4:53.63. 

Kalie Fernandez-Naughton was first in the triple jump. Fernandez-Naughton cleared 30 feet, 9 3/4 inches (9.39m) for the win. 

Leah Zambetti measured a javelin at 113 feet, 7 inches (34.62m) for first place. She earned an AARTFC qualification with her throw. Zambetti also recorded the second-best discus in program history. She measured a throw at 111 feet, 2 inches (33.88m) for sixth place overall. 

On the men's side, John Russo won the 3,000 Steeplechase in 10:45.51. He recorded the fifth-best time in school history. 

Mason Mendygral had the fourth-best high jump in school history. He cleared 5 feet, 11 1/2 inches (1.82m) for third place overall. 

Brandon Reed had the second-best triple jump at Marywood. He finished fourth overall with a distance of 40 feet, 10 1/2 inches (12.46m). Due to wind-resistance on his longest job, his triple jump of 12.35 meters made the record books. 

KC Nwokedi took fourth in the shot put with a distance of 40 feet, 4 3/4 inches (12.31m). AJ Rosenfeld was the runner-up behind Russo in the steeplechase in 10:45.51. 

Jakob Seamans earned fourth in the 5K in 17:19.35. Tyler Hoysan was fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.16.

Raidan Francis came in third in the 1,500 in 4:10.61. Jadyn Sturniolo was also third in the 800 in 2:02.44. 

Nolan Kozera sprinted to a 23.8 second 200 dash for third. 

On the women's side, Bella Auchenbach was the runner-up in the 5K in 21:23.48. Gabby Snee followed in third in 21:29.05. 

Emma Wagner was the runner-up in the 100 hurdles in 20.62 seconds. 

Marywood will compete at the Atlantic East Conference championships next weekend at Gwynedd Mercy.
