Pacers Fall to SUNY New Paltz in Season Opener

Straub netted both Pacers' goals

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University field hockey team kicked off the 2025 season Friday afternoon. The Pacers matched up with the SUNY New Paltz Hawks and despite a late comeback, dropped the season opener, 5-2. 

The Hawks tallied four goals in the first half of play. 

After the half, the Pacers came out hot with Lany Straub tallying the first goal of the Pacers' season. 

In the 40th minute, Olivia Seidel earned her first collegiate assist, by connecting with Straub to cut New Paltz's lead in half, 4-2. 

SUNY New Paltz scored one last goal in the 50th minute to take the 5-2 victory. 

The Hawks outshot Marywood, 25-8. 

Sabrina Frazer started in the cage for the Pacers, collecting five saves. 

Bre Marchiano came in for relief and made four saves. 

Liv Rosengrant made a defensive save for Marywood. 

The Hawks drew nine penalty corners while the Pacers had five. 

Marywood will travel to SUNY Morrisville Sunday.
