Volleyball Outlasts Oneonta State in Five Sets

Scranton, Pa. -- Marywood University women's volleyball outlasted Oneonta State for a 3-2 win on Wednesday evening. Marywood twice came back from a set down. 

The Pacers won by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 15-9 win. Marywood earned its first all-time win over the Red Dragons. 

Genevieve Pollock led the Pacers with 19 kills and a .351 hitting percentage. Carolina Samaniego tallied 11 kills. 

Taylor Hallam provided Marywood with 14 points. She had eight kills, two aces and five total blocks. 

Ayla Bransford notched 39 assists and nine digs. Catie Woolf had a 20-dig effort. 

Tess Connolly tallied six aces. 

Oneonta received 16 points from Shea Landversicht. Both Colleen McCabe and Emma Morretta had 10 kills. Hailey Herrera totaled 41 assists. 

In the second set, Marywood held on to a 16-15 lead. The Pacers finished the set on a 9-1 run on Bransford and Andrea Fraga serves. Marywood closed the set with a block by Taylor Howard and Samaniego. 

Marywood (12-1) fell behind 7-1 in the fourth set. Trailing 14-9, the Pacers scored four straight points in part to back-to-back Connolly aces to bring it within one. Marywood tied it 23-23 on a service error. Connolly again scored an ace before evening the match at 2-2 on an attack error. 

In the deciding set, Hallam gave Marywood an 8-6 lead on an ace. Samaniego had a kill to go ahead 9-7. Marywood used back-to-back kills by Samaniego and Ryleigh Hart to take a 12-8 advantage. After Oneonta scored on a service error, Marywood closed the match with three straight points on Woolf serves. Hart had a kill and then blocked a shot with Hallam. Samaniego secured match point with a kill. 

Oneonta had a .219 to .152 advantage in hitting. The Pacers led the Red Dragons 61-48 in digs. 

Marywood travels to Upstate New York to take on SUNY Delhi and Elmira College.
