Pacers Stymie Pratt, 84-80

Dunmore, Pa. — The Marywood University men's basketball team earned its first Atlantic East Conference win of the season with an 84-80 victory over Pratt Institute on Saturday. The Pacers improve to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 

Collin Himmelberg led the Pacers with 24 points and seven rebounds. Himmelberg went 8 for 12 from the floor with four 3-pointers. It matched a career-high point total, tying a 2024 performance versus King's.

Michel Loftin came off the bench to score 16 points and seven rebounds. Joe Macciocco finished with 13 points and seven assists. Macciocco established a career high for assists.

Pedro Lugo had a career-best four blocks. 

Pratt's Kurt Thomas provided 24 points. The Cannoneers (8-5, 0-2 AEC) had double-digit scoring efforts by Mekhi Davis (13), Trey Phillips (12) and Thomas Graetz (12). Elijah Fermaint had eight points and eight assists. 

Marywood got off to a hot start in the opening 11 minutes. Shilo Bivins layup gave the Pacers an 18-point lead (24-6) with 9:15 left in the half. 

Led by Himmelberg's 19 first-half points, Marywood went into the break with a 46-38 lead. 

Pratt opened the second half with a 13-2 run. Fermaint gave the Cannoneers their first lead with a layup, and Davis scored on a layup to make it a 51-48 Pratt advantage at the 13:40 mark. 

Macciocco had a game-changing minute of play with eight unanswered points. He hit a 3-pointer. On the next possession, he was fouled on a long-distance attempt and made all three of his free throws. He then stole the ball and made two more free throws for a 56-51 lead. 

Pratt trimmed the Pacers' lead to two (69-67) before a Loftin 3-pointer put the Pacers ahead by five points at the 6:08 mark. It started a seven-point run that gave Marywood a ten-point lead with less than five minutes remaining. 

The Cannoneers pushed it to a four-point game with Phillips' layup with 98 seconds left. Noah Perry made an unassisted jumper in the paint. Loftin made a pair of late free throws, and Pratt was unable to get a clean look at the basket fo make it a single-possession game. 

Marywood returns home on Wednesday to welcome Gwynedd Mercy University at 6 p.m.
