Pacers Win in Double Overtime Thriller Against Gwynedd Mercy

Griscavage has career-high six blocks

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. — The Marywood University women's basketball team pulled off a 78-74 victory in a double overtime thriller against Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday night. The Pacers (8-6, 3-0 AEC) rallied back from a 10-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to extend the game to overtime.

Trailing 64-66 in the fourth quarter, with one second left on the clock, Megan Cavoli was fouled, sending her to the free throw line. She netted both shots, pushing the Pacers into overtime. 

The Griffins started overtime strong, scoring six points in the first two minutes. Marywood tied it back up, with late points from Jewlya McCullon and Alli Anstadt, forcing double overtime.

The Pacers held Gwynedd Mercy to a mere two points in the final stanza. It marked the Pacers' first double-overtime win since the 2019-20 season. Marywood had an 79-77 upset victory over Immaculata University in the Atlantic East Conference first round on Feb. 24, 2020.

With the win, Tara Macciocco has the second most wins coach in Marywood athletics history.

Marywood shot 23-65 (35.4 percent) in total on the day, going 11-36 (30.6 percent) from three and 21-28 (75.0 percent) from the charity stripe. 

McCullon led Marywood offensively with 19 points. Maddie Labatch totaled 16 points for the Pacers while Mia Blume had 13. 

Cavoli had a team leading nine rebounds. 

Alli Griscavage had a career-high six blocks against the Griffins. 

The Griffins (4-10, 1-2) totaled 27-81 (33.3 percent) from the floor, 5-21 (23.8 percent) from beyond the arc, and 15-28 (53.6 percent) from the line. 

Erin Eisenhart tallied 15 points for the Griffins. 

Gwynedd Mercy out-rebounded the Pacers, 52-49. 

Marywood will look to extend its winning streak on Saturday, hosting Saint Elizabeth.
