Pacers Suffer First AEC Loss to Saint Elizabeth

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University lost its first Atlantic East Conference women's basketball contest of the season in a 58-53 setback to Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday. The Pacers fall to 8-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play. 

Anyah Ortiz had a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds. Megan Cavoli provided 12 points. 

Tamari Hubbard brought in nine rebounds. 

Turnovers hurt the Pacers. Marywood gave away 21 turnovers to the Eagles' 13. In spite of that, Saint Elizabeth had just an 18-13 advantage in points off turnovers. 

Marywood shot 31.8 percent from the fie, making just 14.8 percent (4 of 27) from long distance. The Pacers dominated off the glass, outrebounding the Eagles 54-34. 

Saint Elizabeth went on a six-point run off 3-pointers from Ahnjionae Cobb and Elyssa Russo to close the first half with a 23-20 lead. 

After trailing most of the game, Marywood evened the score at 42-42 with 8:08 left in the fourth quarter. Jewlya McCullon hit a 3-pointer from Ortiz. Saint Elizabeth responded with points in three consecutive possessions to take a 48-42 lead. 

Marywood cut the lead to 56-52 on a traditional three-point play from Kendel Card with 48 seconds remaining. Cobb drained a pair of free throws to close out the win. 

The Pacers travel to Aston, Pa. on Wednesday to take on Neumann University.
