Men's Basketball Tops Saint Elizabeth, 88-72

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University evened its Atlantic East Conference men's basketball record with an 88-72 victory over Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday. The Pacers improve to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. 

Michel Loftin led the Pacers with 25 points. Loftin made 8 of 15 shots from the field included four 3-pointers. He added six rebounds and six assists. 

Joe Macciocco tallied 15 points. Andrew Quinn came off the bench to score 12 points, and Collin Himmelberg had 10 points. 

Shilo Bivins recorded 10 rebounds and eight points. Pedro Lugo blocked four shots. 

Trailing by three, Marywood went on a 20-2 run over three-minute span in the second half. Loftin made a layup from a Cheney feed to cut the Pacers' deficit to one. Macciocco gave the Pacers a 42-40 lead on a 3-pointer. It began a string of four-straight made 3-pointers in four consecutive possessions. Macciocco scored seven straight points including a pair of free throws to cap the run with a 58-42 lead with 13:55 remaining. 

In the second half, Marywood made six straight 3-pointers. 

The Pacers made 40 percent of their shots for the afternoon. After making a mere 25.71 percent of their shots in the first half, Marywood made 56.67 percent in the second. From long range, the Pacers were 11.76 percent in the first half, followed by hitting two-thirds of their attempts in the last 20 minutes. 

Saint Elizabeth had 27 points from Tye-Rell Monroe. Monroe made 13 of 14 free throw attempts. Both Josiah King and Rodney Tullis Jr. had 13 points. 

Marywood edged the Eagles 43-37 in rebounds. 

The Pacers host Neumann University on Wednesday.
