Women's Soccer Notches First MAC Freedom Win

Riley Bittenbender scores in the ninth minute

Glenside, Pa. — Marywood University won its first MAC Freedom women's soccer game with a 2-1 defeat over Arcadia University on Saturday. The Pacers improve to 9-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.

Riley Bittenbender scored the first goal in the ninth minute. Kylie McDonald and Faith Meals boxed in a Knight defender to intercept possession. Bittenbender and Bryn Stiles played a give-and-go into the box. The Scranton, Pa. forward shot for the far post before it was deflected into goal by a defender.

Jadyn Lamielle added to the Pacers' lead with her first career goal in the 40th minute. Meals sent a low cross to the far post that was one-time by a charging Lamielle from just a few yards out.

Arcadia cut into Marywood's lead in the 53rd minute. Off of a throw-in attempt, Olivia Gehman sent a thruball that evaded a Marywood defender's reach. Mia Casey rushed in to score her third goal of the year.

Both Meals and Stiles were credited with an assist.

Genevieve Morrison earned the win with four saves. She saved an Arcadia chance in the 83rd minute.

Arcadia outshot the Pacers by a 12-4 margin with a 5-3 advantage in attempts on frame. The Knights had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Marywood welcomes Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
