Men’s Soccer Defeated by Arcadia in MAC Freedom Opener

Glenside, Pa.- The Marywood University men's soccer team dropped its first-ever MAC Freedom match to Arcadia University 4-2 Saturday evening at Jean Lenox West Field.

Marywood falls to 3-4-2 and 0-1-0 in MAC Freedom play. Arcadia improves to 4-3-3 and 1-0-0 in conference action.

Marywood was led by Jack Forbes, who scored both Pacers' goals. Aiden Schmitt, Kyle Falcon, and Jayce Wilson each recorded an assist.

For Arcadia, Juan Pozo, Elijah Kaba, Braiden Sottile and Daniel Altman each scored once, while Scott Jordan contributed an assist.

Ryan Schweigart kept Marywood within striking distance throughout the contest as he recorded eight saves. Arcadia goalkeeper Randy Heidorn made two saves.

Arcadia opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Sottile finished off an assist from Canal. Pozo doubled the Knights' advantage in the 23rd minute with an unassisted goal before Kaba added another in the 37th minute off a feed from Jordan to send Arcadia into halftime with a three-goal advantage.

The Knights extended their lead to four in the 50th minute when Altman found the back of the net.

Marywood responded with two goals in a 33-second span to cut the deficit in half. Forbes put the Pacers on the board in the 55th minute, converting an assist from Schmitt. Forbes struck again less than a minute later, this time finishing a play set up by Falcon and Wilson.

The Pacers continued to pressure Arcadia but were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way. Marywood finished with 12 shots, including four on goal, while Arcadia recorded 19 shots and 12 shots on target.

Marywood also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks in the second half and finished with four corners overall. The Pacers recorded 10 shots in the second half after managing two in the opening 45 minutes.

The Pacers host Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
