Women's Tennis Drops 4-3 Match to Mount Aloysius

Scranton, Pa.- Marywood University women's tennis dropped a tightly contested 4-3 decision to Mount Aloysius on Sunday afternoon.

Marywood falls to 0-2 on the season.

The Pacers opened doubles by earning one of the three points. Abigail Mach and Eleni Petropoulos Wendt picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles over Mariah Hall and Masie Reed.

Mount Aloysius claimed the other two doubles matches, with Morgan Allen and Lauryn Kitchen defeating Avianna Santarelli and Hanna Adonizio, 6-2, at No. 1, while Kaylee Mento and Samara Scott topped Hannah Brownlee and Angeline Batista Nieto, 6-3, at No. 2.

Marywood responded with four singles victories, but Mount Aloysius secured the team victory by taking three of the six singles matches. Brownlee earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Mento at No. 3 singles, while Batista Nieto battled past Scott, 7-5, 7-6 (10-8), at No. 4. Petropoulos Wendt completed the Pacers' singles wins with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Reed at No. 6.

Adonizio nearly added another point for the Pacers at No. 2 singles, but Kitchen prevailed in a three-set battle. Adonizio took the first set, 6-3, before Kitchen answered with a 7-6 (7-2) second-set victory and a 10-2 win in the super tiebreaker.

Mount Aloysius also received singles victories from Allen and Hall. Allen defeated Santarelli, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1, while Hall topped Mach, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow, hosting crosstown rival University of Scranton at 4 p.m.
