Zakovitch’s Late Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer to First-Ever MAC Freedom Victory

Scranton, Pa.- The Marywood University men's soccer team earned its first-ever MAC Freedom victory with a dramatic 1-0 triumph over Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday evening.

The Pacers (4-4-2, 1-1-0 MAC Freedom) battled the Ducks (5-2-2, 0-1-1) through a scoreless opening 45 minutes before Jack Zakovitch delivered the breakthrough with just 8:40 remaining in regulation. Zakovitch finished off a cross from Jack Forbes, finding the back of the net off a deflection to give Marywood a 1-0 advantage in the 82nd minute.

The Ducks continued to pressure the Marywood defense in the closing minutes, earning one final opportunity to equalize. With less than 40 seconds remaining, Stevens fired a shot toward the Marywood goal, but Cameron Johnston blocked the attempt to preserve the win for the Pacers.

Ryan Schweigart was outstanding between the posts as he turned aside all 11 shots he faced to record the shutout. Stevens generated 19 shots overall.

Marywood finished the night with nine shots, putting three on frame, while Stevens held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Pacers host Delaware Valley on Saturday for Senior Day.
