Men's Lacrosse Downs Wilkes in Downpour

Meighan, Strobel Finish with Hat Tricks

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University earned its first men's lacrosse victory of the season with a 9-6 decision over Wilkes University. In the downpour, the Pacers finished the game with four unanswered goals to close the game. 

Marywood trailed 6-5 in the late stages of the third quarter. With 22 seconds left in the frame, Osten Grigas scored an equalizer on an Owen Kelly assist. 

Michael Caputo scored the game-winning goal with 8:02 remaining in the game. 

Two minutes later, Ben Meighan put the Pacers ahead by two with an assist from Grigas. Owen Kelly scored his first goal to cap off Marywood's scoring. 

Meighan led the Pacers with three goals and two assists for five points. Ricky Strobel also had a hat trick with an assist. 

Marywood also received a goal and two assists from Kelly. Grigas had a goal and assist. 

Luke Ament went 15 for 18 from the faceoff-x with 15 ground balls.

Kelly and Antonio Cortes each provided five ground balls. Dalton Gerver, Grigas, Wil Pieters and Dominic Cottone all had three ground balls. 

The Pacers' Colin Trainor made six saves with five ground balls. 

Wilkes' Stone Sosnovik had a hat trick. The Colonels' Caleb Miller made 16 saves. 

Marywood outshot the Colonels by a 50-22 margin. The Pacers had a 52-29 advantage in ground balls. 

The Pacers will host Lycoming College on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
