Marywood Softball Falls to Pitt.-Greensburg, Rhode Island College

Clermont, Fla.- The Marywood University softball team dropped a pair of run-rule decisions on Thursday, falling to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, 13-5, and Rhode Island College, 24-2.

Game One: Marywood 5, Pitt.-Greenburg 13 (5 inn.)

Marywood struck quickly in the top of the first inning. Marley Sarafinko opened the scoring with an RBI double to right-center that brought home Kat Davis. Moments later, Tori Para doubled to center to score Sarafinko, and Amber Little followed with an RBI single up the middle to give the Pacers a 3-0 lead.

Pitt.-Greensburg got one run back in the bottom of the first on a steal of home following a throwing error, but Marywood responded in the second inning. After Sarafinko singled and Para doubled, Marissa Hoffman delivered a two-run single to right field to extend the Pacers' advantage.

The Bobcats began to chip away in the third inning. Kenzie Lang singled in a run and Lilly Buckles followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 5-3. Pitt.-Greensburg pulled within one in the fourth inning when Jessica Dunn doubled to left-center and advanced to third on the throw.

The game turned in the bottom of the fifth inning when Pitt.-Greensburg erupted for nine runs. The Bobcats tied the game on a bases-loaded walk and took the lead on an RBI single from Cassidy Kunkle. Jadyn Davis then delivered a two-run single to extend the advantage before additional hits capped the rally and secured the run-rule victory.

Sarafinko and Para each collected multiple hits for the Pacers, while Hoffman led the team with two RBIs.

Game Two: Rhode Island 24, Marywood 2 (5 inn.)

Rhode Island College struck quickly in the top of the first inning. Noelle Simmons opened the scoring and eventually came home on a wild pitch.

Later in the frame, Jillian Guilfoyle delivered a two-run single to right field to make it 3–0. Brianna Bailey followed with a two-run triple to right center, and another run crossed on a Marywood error to push the lead to 6–0 after the first inning.

The Anchorwomen added another run in the second inning on Guilfoyle's RBI triple before extending the lead further in the fourth. Joey Meyer singled up the middle to bring home Sophia Crudale, and additional runs scored on a Marywood error and Bailey's second two-run triple of the game as Rhode Island College built an 11–0 advantage.

Marywood broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Ariana Shellman drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored when Jessie Kmak worked a bases-loaded walk.

Rhode Island sealed the game with a 13-run fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Lily Bell.
