Game Recap: Women's Flag Football |

Pacers Open Home Slate with Losses to Holy Family, Centenary

Scranton, Pa.- In its first home games in program history, the Marywood University women's flag football team endured a difficult debut, falling 52-0 to Holy Family University before dropping a 32-22 decision to Centenary University on Sunday afternoon.

Game One: Holy Family 52, Marywood 0
Holy Family set the tone early and never let up, building a 13-0 lead after the opening quarter before adding two more touchdowns in the second to take a commanding 26-0 advantage into halftime.

Marywood showed brief flashes offensively late in the second quarter, as a completion from Miranda Taveras to Sabrina Frazer moved the Pacers into better field position, but the drive stalled before any points could be produced.

Holy Family continued to control the game after the break, striking quickly in the third quarter with a long touchdown pass to extend the lead. The Tigers' defense also delivered a key highlight later in the quarter, returning an interception 80 yards for a touchdown to push the margin further out of reach.

Despite the deficit, Marywood continued to compete, piecing together one of its better drives midway through the second half behind completions from Erin Day to Taveras and Abi Whitmore. The Pacers advanced into Holy Family territory but were unable to finish the drive.

Holy Family added two more scores in the fourth quarter to close out the 52-0 final.

Day led Marywood's offensive efforts with several completions, while Frazer, Whitmore, and Taveras each contributed in the passing game.

Defensively, the Pacers battled throughout but were challenged by Holy Family's ability to generate explosive plays both through the air and on the ground.

Game Two: Centenary 32, Marywood 22

After a scoreless opening quarter, Centenary broke through in the second period with a pair of touchdowns to take a 13-0 lead. Marywood answered before halftime with a safety to get on the board, trimming the deficit to 13-2 heading into the break.

The Pacers showed resilience coming out of halftime, as both teams traded scores in the third quarter. The Cyclones added another touchdown, but Marywood responded to stay within striking distance, making it a two-possession game entering the final period.

Marywood's offense found its rhythm in the fourth quarter, putting together its most productive stretch of the game. The Pacers scored twice in the final frame, highlighted by a touchdown connection from Day to Eberly and a rushing conversion from Whitmore, closing the gap to 25-22.

However, Centenary delivered the decisive blow with just over four minutes remaining, as Kezia Feaster broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run to extend the lead and seal the outcome.

Day led Marywood through the air, completing nine passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, while also contributing on the ground. Eberly provided a spark in the passing game with 66 receiving yards and a score, and Whitmore paced the rushing attack with a touchdown.

Defensively, Frazer recorded a team-high seven tackles, while Kelsey Green and Taveras each made key plays, including interceptions that helped keep the Pacers within reach.

Marywood will host their final home play day of the season as they face Neumann University and Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday.
