Pacers Prevail Against Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.- The Marywood University women's tennis team edged Bard College in a tightly contested 4-3 victory Tuesday afternoon.

Doubles play opened the day with momentum on both sides. Bard struck first as Paige Houghton and Catherine Chapel defeated Kylie Kilgore and Catarina English 6-4 at the No. 1 position.

Marywood answered immediately at No. 2, where Avianna Santarelli and Hanna Adonizio delivered a dominant 6-0 win over Lola Greene and Sienna Roveda.

The decisive doubles point came down to the No. 3 matchup, where Abigail Mach and Hannah Brownlee outlasted Lisa Krytoka and Isa Santos 6-4, giving Marywood an early advantage heading into singles.

Singles competition featured several competitive matchups and multiple extended battles. At No. 1 singles, Houghton of Bard edged Kilgore in a dramatic super tiebreak, taking the match 6-4, 3-6, 11-9. The Pacers responded strongly in the middle of the lineup, as Santarelli powered past Chapel 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, while English controlled her match against Santos 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3.

At No. 4, Adonizio continued Marywood's strong showing with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win over Roveda. The No. 5 match saw Brownlee in control before her contest ended early due to retirement with Marywood leading. In the final match at No. 6, Krytoka came away with a three-set victory over Mach by scores of 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Marywood (8-4) will take on Immaculata University at home on Saturday, Apr. 18 at 1 p.m.
