Late Inning Drama Ends in Cyclone Split

Jalen Soberal hits game-winning RBI single in the seventh

Hackettstown, N.J. - Marywood University salvaged a split in a pair of Atlantic East Conference baseball games decided in the last inning. The Pacers fell to Centenary University 5-4 in the opener before upending the Cyclones 6-4 in the nightcap. 

Marywood outhit the Cyclones in all three games of the series.

Game 2: Marywood 6, Centenary 4 (7 inn.)

Jalen Soberal hit a game-winning single in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Cyclones. 

Tied 4-4 in the top half of the inning, Evan Bruder led off with a walk, moved to scoring position by an AJ Kuzior sacrifice bunt. Tanner Vicendese loaded the bases with a single. Soberal drove in two runs on a single to right field to take a 6-4 lead. 

Isaac Galarza (4-0) earned his second win of the week. He allowed four earned runs in six innings, striking out three batters. Caleb Fisher notched a save with a scoreless seventh. 

Vicendese hit three singles for hte Pacers. Soberal had a team-high two RBIs. 

Joel Ayers reached three times with a pair of singles and a hit-batsman. Mike Biskup went 2 for 3 with a double. 

The Cyclones' Nick Friscia went 4 for 4 with two runs. Dominick Chiego doubled twice. 

Marywood broke a scoreless draw in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to center field. The Cyclones matched them in the bottom half with a run. 

The Pacers and Cyclones both posted three runs in the fifth. Evan Bruder gave Marywood a 2-1 lead with a sacrifice fly. AJ Kuzior followed with a double to left center. Ethan Reccek singled to right center to bring in a run. 

Game 1: Centenary 5, Marywood 4

Initially slated as a seven-inning game, the Cyclones and Pacer went into extra innings. 

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the seventh, Marywood posted two runs to send the game into extra baseball. Ethan Reccek hit a single to left center to bring in Evan Bruder. Marywood scored the tying run on a walk that brought in Soberal. 

In the eighth, Connor Rasimovich hit a go-ahead home run on the ninth pitch of the at-bat. The Cyclones' Simeon Reed squared the game at four with an RBI single. 

Centenary won on a walkoff Andrew Briggs single to left field in the bottom of the ninth. 

Joel Ayers went 3 for 5 with two doubles. Bruder batted 2 for 4 with a single and an RBI. 

Tanner Vicendese went 2 for 4 with a double. 

Noah Trager took the mound to start the game. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits. Brett Kugler did not allow an earned run in 1 2/3 innings. 

The Pacers (21-12, 7-5 AEC) travel to Wilkes-Barre Township on Tuesday to take on King's College.
