Women’s Flag Football Swept by Griffins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa.- The Marywood University's women's flag football team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Chestnut Hill College, falling 44-0 and 18-6 Sunday afternoon at Chestnut Hill College Athletic Field to close out its inaugural season.

Game One: Marywood 0, Chestnut Hill College 44
Chestnut Hill's defense capitalized on a first quarter interception to set up the game's opening score. After picking off a Marywood pass near midfield, the Griffins quickly marched down the field, finishing the drive with a touchdown run and a successful point-after attempt to take a 7–0 lead.

Marywood showed flashes of movement on its opening possessions, highlighted by a long third down connection to move into Chestnut Hill territory, but the Pacers were unable to sustain drives. Turnovers and penalties stalled any early momentum, including an interception that halted a promising push late in the first quarter.

The second quarter proved decisive as Chestnut Hill broke the game open. The Griffins piled on 30 points in the period, consistently finding success through the air and on the ground. Short fields, created by defensive stops and strong field position, allowed Chestnut Hill to score quickly and often, building a commanding halftime lead.

Despite continued effort, Marywood was unable to generate points in the second half. The Pacers' defense showed resilience at times, limiting Chestnut Hill to just one additional touchdown after the break, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Offensively, Marywood continued to battle but struggled to convert key downs and sustain drives against a disciplined Griffins defense.

Game Two: Marywood 6, Chestnut Hill 18
Chestnut Hill set the tone almost immediately, turning a Marywood turnover into points in the opening quarter. An interception returned for a touchdown gave the Griffins a 6–0 lead and put the Pacers on their heels just minutes into the contest.

Despite several defensive stands that prevented additional damage in the first half, Marywood's offense struggled to find rhythm, managing just four first downs and minimal production on the ground.

The Pacers' defense kept them within striking distance through much of the game, highlighted by strong tackling performances from Abi Whitmore and Sabrina Frazer, while Erin Day added two interceptions.

Still, Chestnut Hill capitalized on key opportunities, extending its lead in the third quarter when Raquelle Dandy connected with Caroline Croteau for an 18-yard touchdown pass to make it 12–0.

Marywood showed life late in the fourth quarter. Day engineered the team's best drive of the afternoon, finishing it herself with a rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to 12–6.

The momentum, however, was short-lived. On the ensuing possession, Chestnut Hill responded quickly as Dandy found Yorehiny Monero downfield for a 65-yard touchdown, sealing the outcome.

Day finished 11-of-30 passing for 119 yards, while Abi Whitmore led the receiving corps with 57 yards. Offensively, Marywood totaled 126 yards compared to Chestnut Hill's 238, with the Griffins' ground game, led by Dandy's 93 rushing yards, proving to be a decisive factor.
