Women’s Tennis Concludes Season as Atlantic East Runner-Ups

Marywood finishes the season at 10-5

Aston, Pa.- The Marywood University women's tennis team wrapped up an impressive 2026 campaign as Atlantic East Conference runner-ups after advancing to the conference championship match.

The Pacers, seeded No. 2, earned a hard-fought 4-3 semifinal victory over No. 3 Marymount University before falling to top-seeded Pratt Institute, 4-0, in the title match.

Marymount opened the match by taking two of three doubles. At No. 1 doubles, Avery DeFazio and Sofi Plotkin earned a 6-4 win over Kylie Kilgore and Catarina English.

Marywood answered in convincing fashion at No. 2 doubles, where Hanna Adonizio and Avianna Santarelli dominated Renee Schmidt and Olivia Clontz 6-0. The Saints closed doubles play with a 6-4 win at No. 3 from Alejandra Gallegos and Peyton Johnson over Abigail Mach and Hannah Brownlee.

In singles, Marywood University responded quickly to flip the match in its favor. Kilgore set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over DeFazio, and Santarelli followed with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles against Plotkin.

Marymount fought back when Clontz outlasted English in a three-set battle at No. 3 singles, winning 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

With the match coming down to the final two courts, Marywood delivered under pressure. Adonizio came through at No. 4 singles, rallying past Schmidt 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 6-0 in a pivotal three-set win. Brownlee then secured the deciding point at No. 5 singles, defeating Gallegos 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the semifinal victory.

Marymount added a win at No. 6 singles, where Johnson defeated Mach 6-1, 6-1, but it was not enough to overcome Marywood's late surge.

Pratt set the tone early by sweeping two of the three doubles matches to claim the opening point. At No. 1 doubles, Kilgore and English of Marywood were defeated 6-1 by Pallavi Verghese and Beatrice Crespo.

The Pacers also dropped the No. 3 spot, where Mach and Brownlee fell 6-0 to Satoka Shibasaki and Olivia Tao. The No. 2 doubles match went unfinished, with Adonizio and Santarelli trailing Srishti Agarwal and Judith Song 4-2 in the first set before play was halted.

In singles action, Pratt continued to apply pressure across the lineup. Kilgore was defeated at No. 1 singles by Verghese, 6-1, 6-1, while Brownlee fell at No. 5 singles to Shibasaki, 6-0, 6-1. Tao also earned a straight set win at No. 6 singles over Mach, 6-1, 6-0, clinching the overall match for Pratt.

Several other singles matches were in progress when the team result was decided. Santarelli trailed Crespo 6-2, 2-0 at No. 2 singles, English was tied 6-2, 2-2 with Agarwal at No. 3, and Adonizio was down 6-3, 3-0 against Song at No. 4.
