Pacers End Postseason Drought, Sweep Neumann

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University reached the baseball postseason for the first time in 11 years. Needing to win two to reach the Atlantic East Conference playoffs, the Pacers swept Neumann University on Saturday.

Marywood will compete in the Atlantic East playoffs as the No. 4 seed. Centenary University secured the No. 1 seed and will host the conference tournament.

The Pacers blanked the Knights 5-0 in the opener. In a must-win game that was essentially a play-in game, Marywood came back to beat Neumann 5-3 in the nightcap.

Game 2: Marywood 5, Neumann 3

Marywood kept Neumann hitless for the last 7 1/3 innings. The Pacers came back from a three-run deficit after the top of the first inning.

In a tied game, the Pacers scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mike Biskup led off with a triple when the center fielder slipped on the grass on a line drive. With bases loaded, Joel Ayers drove in the game-winning run with a walk. Evan Bruder hit a sacrifice fly to give Marywood a 5-3 lead.

Austin Bausman (4-4) captured the win in a relief effort. He threw 2 1/3 hitless innings, striking out one and walking on batter. Danny Tiedemann had a no-decision. Tiedemann went 6 2/3 innings strong. He allowed three earned runs with three strikeouts and five hits.

Adam Ginsberg led the Pacers with two hits. Biskup tripled and scored twice. Cam Bott reached three times.

Neumann had four of its five base hits in the first inning, putting up a three-run advantage. Marywood responded with a run in the bottom frame. With the bases loaded, Bruder scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Pacers cut into the Knights' lead. Biskup led off with a hit by pitch. Bott singled to center field to bring in the second run.

Marywood tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. AJ Kuzior hit a solo home run down the right field line for his team-leading seventh roundtripper of the season.

Biskup made a game-changing catch in right field in the seventh. Tied 7-7 with runners on second and third, Biskup dove head first to field a Andrew Brown liner to end the inning.

Game 1: Marywood 5, Neumann 0

In another must-win game, Isaac Galarza (5-0) threw a four-hit shutout. Galarza pitched a seven-inning complete game, striking out a pair.

Joel Ayers drove in two of the three RBIs. Nick Ruiz finished with two hits and a double.

In the bottom of the third, Marywood scored the first run of the game. Tanner Vicendese led off with a double to center field. Cam Bott beat out a single on a bunt. Ayers grounded out to take a 1-0 lead.

Marywood broke open the game with a four-run fifth inning. Ruiz hit a lead off double to right center, moving into scoring position on a Vicendese sacrifice bunt. Cam Bott reached on a dropped third strike. Ayers singled to left to double the Pacers' lead.

The Pacers scored two on a throwing error. Following a Ginsburg double, AJ Kuzior singled through the left side for a 5-0 lead.

Marywood reaches the postseason for the third time overall and the first time since 2015. The Pacers were the No. 1 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs that season. A victory in the Atlantic East playoffs would be the Pacers' first postseason win.
