Baseball Closes Memorable 2026 Campaign in Atlantic East Tournament

Pacers finish the year at 27-17

Hackettstown, N.J.- The historic 2026 season for the Marywood University baseball team came to an end Friday afternoon in the Atlantic East Conference playoffs as the Pacers fell to Marymount University, 25-6, before dropping an 8-6 decision to Centenary University.

Marywood jumped out to an early lead, plating a run in the opening inning when Joel Ayers brought home Evan Bruder with a groundout after Bruder opened the game with a double.

The Pacers added another run in the second inning after a failed pickoff attempt and catcher's error allowed Ethan Reccek to score for a 2-0 advantage.

Marymount answered immediately with a five-run second inning highlighted by an inside-the-park three-run home run from Quincy Via, giving the Saints a 5-2 lead.

Marymount continued to add on in the third and fourth innings behind the long ball, including a two-run homer from Anthony Farmakides and a two-run shot by Evan Schick.

The Saints broke the game open with an eight-run sixth inning. Francis Swekosky capped the rally with a three-run double as Marymount built a 20-4 cushion.

Marywood continued to battle offensively throughout the afternoon. Nick Ruiz drove in two runs and reached base three times, while Ayers finished with two hits and two RBIs. Bruder scored twice and doubled, and Mike Biskup added a triple and scored twice.

Isaac Galarza took the loss after striking out three over 2.2 innings.

Marywood 6, Centenary 8
Marywood struck first in the opening inning when AJ Kuzior delivered an RBI single to center field to score Bruder for a 1-0 lead. Kuzior finished with a strong day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Centenary answered in the second inning with three runs, highlighted by Joseph Frei's two-run single up the middle after Derek DePace tied the game with an RBI single. Frei drove in four runs on the afternoon and collected three hits, while DePace scored three times and added three hits of his own.

The Cyclones added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 5-1. Dominick Chiego drove in a run with an RBI single in the fourth, and Frei added another RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth.

Marywood began to chip away in the sixth when Biskup singled home Adam Ginsberg to make it 5-2. In the seventh, Ginsberg tripled to right center to score Bruder and cut the deficit to two. Ginsberg finished with a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Centenary responded with a decisive three-run bottom of the seventh. Frei added a sacrifice fly before Myles Castillo delivered an RBI double to right center. An error in left field also allowed an unearned run to score as the Cyclones pushed their advantage to 8-3.

The Pacers continued to battle late. In the eighth inning, Ruiz singled home a run and Tanner Vicendese added a sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 8-5. Marywood added another run in the ninth when Reccek singled up the middle to score Kuzior, but Centenary closer Anthony Fraser retired the final two batters to secure the win and earn the save.

Biskup went 2-for-5 with two RBIs for Marywood, while Bruder reached base three times and scored twice. Ruiz also added an RBI hit in the eighth inning.

Danny Tiedemann took the loss for the Pacers after allowing five runs over 4.2 innings. Austin Bausman tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief before Centenary broke through again in the seventh.
