Women's Soccer Storms Past SUNY Poly

Maura Kirkpatrick scores a goal and an assist

Scranton, Pa — Marywood University women's soccer stayed undefeated with a 4-0 win over SUNY Poly on Saturday. The Pacers used a three-goal second half second half to down the Wildcats. 

Maura Kirkpatrick led the Pacers with a goal and an assist.

Addie Galea made one save to secure the clean sheet for the Pacers. 

After 33 scoreless minutes, Riley Bittenbender put the Pacers on the scoreboard with a finesse goal. On a Samantha Dias cross from 30 yards out, Bittenbender stuck out her foot to redirect it into the goal from 7 yards away. 

Madison Dias and Kirkpatrick teamed up for an end-to-end transition goal in the 56th minute. Dias sent a pass to Kirkpatrick at midfield that was sent forward for a breakaway chance at goal. Dias beat her defenders and delivered a shot that evaded the SUNY Poly keeper. 

Five minutes later, Kirkpatrick used her size to bully defenders in the middle of the box. She made two moves and cut left for a 7-yard goal. 

Mia Menzzasalma hit a goalazo in the 86th minute to cap the scoring. On a free kick from 36 yards out, Menzzasalma curled a shot into the far top corner for her first career goal. 

Marywood had a 43-3 advantage in shots with a 17-1 edge in attempts on target. The Pacers had a sixfold edge (12-2) on the Wildcats in corner kicks. 

Marywood (4-0-1) welcomes Wilkes University on Wednesday night.
