Women's Soccer Wins Third-Straight Opening Day Match

Stiles tallies brace in win

Altoona, Pa. — Marywood University blanked Penn State Altoona 5-0 Tuesday to open its women's soccer season. It marks the third straight season-opening win for the Pacers. 

Bryn Stiles scored two goals for the Pacers. It marks her fifth career brace. 

Marywood went on the board in the 15th minute on a goal from Madison Dias. Twenty-two yards near the corner, Dias aired a ball in the direction of goal that slipped through the extension of the Lions' goalkeeper. 

In the 29th minute, Samantha Margolis scored on a corner kick play. Cassidy Tweedie knocked down the corner, and Margolis settled the ball before striking from 8 yards out. 

Stiles scored both of her goals in a 91-second span. In the 31st minute, Julia Coblentz went for the near corner from the side of the 18-yard box. Her shot deflected off the keeper's hands and caromed off the post to the feet of an incoming Stiles. Later, she headed a Morgan Fitzpatrick corner kick.

After missing her sophomore season, Maura Kirkpatrick got back on the scoresheet for the Pacers in the 58th minute. On a bouncing ball, Kirkpatrick found a lane and delivered a left-footed shot into the near corner. 

Addie Galea and Genevieve Morrison combined for a shutout. The Lions' Mya Torres had six saves. 

Marywood will play its home opener Friday versus Wilson College at 7 p.m.
