Field Hockey Glides Past Lyco, 3-1

Marywood improves to 4-3 on season

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University downed Lycoming College 3-1 Wednesday in non-conference field hockey action. The Pacers came back from an early-goal deficit with three unanswered scores. 

The Pacers (4-3) were led by goals scored from three different players. Amelia Niven, Brooke Barwick and Emma Toth each found the back of the cage for the Pacers. 

Lycoming took an early lead in the seventh minute. A cross was set by Carmen Hannon's stick in the box, allowing Laurel Fite to drive in a goal. 

Marywood responded in the 10th. Barwick lifted a shot in the air over the goalkeeper that was deflected by Niven. Her initial shot was stopped by Melanie Langford for a defensive save. Niven collapse on the rebound to even the score. 

The score remained tied until the 35th minute of play. Barwick's shot to the inside post got past the Warriors keeper for the eventual game-winning goal. 

The Pacers converted off yet another Warriors' defensive save. During a penalty corner chance, Whitney Berge's shot was stopped at the line by Annika Klinefelter. Emma Toth found the ball in a middle of a scrum and drove it into the cage for the 3-1 lead. 

Marywood outshot the Warriors 14-0 in the fourth quarter. 

The Pacers finished with a 33-4 advantage in shots with a 22-4 swing in attempts on target. Marywood topped the Warriors 8-5 in penalty corners. 

Sabrina Frazer had three saves for Marywood. Hilary Clark kept out 17 attempts for the Warriors. 

Marywood travels to Reading on Friday to take on Albright College.
