Pacers Waste No Time Topping Pioneers

Brooke Barwick scores in first minute of play

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University field hockey won its home opener on its new turf field on Saturday. The Pacers topped William Paterson University by a 3-0 decision.

Brooke Barwick scored an unassisted goal 45 seconds into regulation.

With just seven seconds left in the first half, the Pacers doubled their lead. On a penalty corner, Phoebe Myers deflected a ball up in the air for Whitney Berge to hammer into the far side of the cage.

In the 53rd minute, Megan Jones tallied the Pacers' second penalty corner goal. Emma Toth stopped the insert and crossed it to Jones. She fired a 10 yard shot from the top of the box for the 3-0 advantage.

Addison Marcin recorded a defensive save in the 10th minute.

The Pioneers earned a fourth quarter defensive save by Elizaberth Fitzharris. She tumbled into the cage to dispel a shot that ringed off the cage.

William Paterson's Courtney Diprenda made nine saves. Sabrina Frazer made one stop to complete the shutout.
