Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Hilbert, La Roche to Remain Unbeaten

Keuka Park, N.Y. - The Marywood University women's volleyball team capped a perfect weekend at the Keuka Invitational Saturday afternoon, earning three-set sweeps over Hilbert College and La Roche University.

Marywood 3, Hilbert 0

The Pacers knocked off the Hawks 25-22, 25-13, 25-20.

Gracee Work and Carolina Samaniego led the Marywood attack with nine kills apiece. Taylor Hallam also provided a strong offensive performance with seven kills and a .357 hitting percentage.

Piper Herauf added 17 assists and three service aces, while Ayla Bransford dished out 16 assists. Andrea Fraga paced the defensive effort with 12 digs, and Catie Woolf contributed seven digs.

Marywood set the tone early, jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set behind a pair of kills from Work and Hallam. Hilbert battled back, eventually closing the gap to 23-22, but the Pacers held firm. A Hilbert service error gave Marywood set point at 24-22 before the Pacers secured the opening frame.

The second set belonged to Marywood from the outset. The Pacers built an 8-5 advantage before steadily extending their lead. Hallam and Work helped fuel the offense as Marywood opened a 16-10 cushion, and the Pacers closed the set on a 9-3 run to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Herauf delivered a service ace during the run, while Samaniego and Billie Leet each contributed kills.

Marywood carried that momentum into the third set, racing to a 5-1 lead. The Hawks trimmed the deficit to three points on several occasions, including a late 21-20 margin, but the Pacers answered with three straight points to regain control. Samaniego put Marywood ahead 22-20 with a kill, and the Pacers followed with a block and a service ace from Woolf to seal the set and match.

Marywood 3, La Roche 0

Marywood swept La Roche 25-21, 25-13, 25-12.

Hallam led the Pacers offensively with 13 kills. Samaniego added seven kills on 13 attacks while hitting .538.

Bransford directed the Marywood offense with 19 assists while adding three kills and nine digs.

Defensively, Woolf and Fraga recorded 10 digs each. Hallam, Leet, and Taylor Howard combined for nine total blocks.

The Pacers used a strong start to take control in the opening set. Marywood built a 16-11 advantage before La Roche rallied to pull even at 17-17. The Pacers responded by scoring four of the next five points and eventually closed out the set.

Marywood carried that momentum into the second set, turning a 4-4 tie into a 10-5 advantage. The Pacers continued to extend their lead, reaching 18-10 before closing the set on a 7-3 run.

The third set was even more decisive. Marywood jumped out to a 6-1 lead and steadily pulled away. The Pacers led 16-5 before scoring four straight points to make it 20-6. Marywood then finished off the sweep, 25-12.

The Pacers (5-0) head to SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday.
