Dennis Maldonado enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Marywood University men’s soccer team, serving as a volunteer in 2019.
Maldonado has previously served alongside coach John Velasco as an assistant coach at Division II Bloomfield College and Division III Kean University. He led the Bears to a 12-4-2 record in 2017, leading them to a CACC semifinal appearance. At Bloomfield, he assisted in monitoring academic standards, team operations and recruitment.
Prior to that, Maldonado was an assistant for Kean University Men's soccer in the 2016 season, helping guide them to a 14-6-1 record and their first NCAA tournament appearance in 16 years. Before Kean, he was a staff coach at GoSoccer FC (Bridgewater, NJ) from 2009-2014 and NYCFC affiliate - TSF Academy (Lincoln Park, NJ) in 2015.
Maldonado holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from East Stroudsburg University in 2008 and a master's degree in sport & exercise psychology from Seton Hall University in 2014.
As an undergraduate student-athlete at East Stroudsburg University, Maldonado played under one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history, Jerry Sheska. He played midfield for one of the top Division II programs in the country, helping the nationally ranked ESU warriors to 2 conference titles and 2 NCAA appearances.
After college, Maldonado played professionally in Ecuador's second division for Cuniburo FC in the city of Cayambe,
He holds USSF Level E coaching license, as well as a NJ Grade 8 referee license. He is fluent in Spanish.
Coach Maldonado currently works as a flight attendant for United Airlines.
