Marywood Lets Early Momentum Evaporate in Loss to Royals

Scranton, PA – Marywood University women's volleyball team got off to a hot start Tuesday night against The University of Scranton, but when the dust settled nearly two hours later, the Royals had scored a 3-1 victory at Insalaco Arena.

The Royals (10-21) rallied after dropping the first set, 13-25, to win the final three sets, 25-18, 25-14, 27-25, to improve to 26-2 all-time against the Pacers (17-10).

Wearing pink jerseys to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pacers were led by another strong game from Ashley Zalewski. Zalewski totaled 12 kills on 30 chances. Mikayla Bristol contributed 11 kills on 29 attempts.

Kelly Chadwick contributed 24 assists to place herself 39 shy of Alyssa Hartranft's single season record. She was a dig shy of a double-double with nine on the day. Rachel Tollett added on to her career record with 15 digs. Mackenzie Goodwin totaled eight digs.

Amy Kester led the team with three service aces.

Marywood had only one receiving error on the game to the Royals' six. Marywood shot a .310 attack percentage in the first set victory.

Scranton's Julia Crilly had another strong game, finishing with finishing with 15 kills and 22 digs for her 14th double-double of the season. Her 22 digs marked her second-highest total of the season behind the 28 she had in a 3-2 loss to PSU-Altoona on Sept. 21.

Marywood awaits the rest of the CSAC to finish its schedules to await its fate in the conference tournament. The Pacers are guaranteed the No. 4 seed and will host a first-round match on Nov. 5 against an opponent to be determined.
