Scranton, PA - Shannon Kane had her first victory as the Marywood University women's volleyball head coach as the Pacers went on to a 3-0 victory Monday against Delaware Valley College in their season opener. The Pacers won by scores of 26-24, 25-11, 25-18.

Amy Kester and Kelly Chadwick each provided seven kills on 11 attempts. Kester contributed with 14 digs. In a departure from her previous role as a setter, Chadwick contributed 10 digs.

Filling in for now-assistant coach Rachel Tollett's libero role, Shayna Finn added nine digs in her first collegiate game. Finn was lights-out from behind the line with six service aces.

Danielle DeIulio had 23 of the team's 26 assists in a starting role as a freshman. Catherine Anlas made her volleyball debut with two kills on six attempts, and Lexi Hammer garnered three aces and five digs.

Marywood avenges a 3-0 loss to the Aggies last season. The Aggies handily won that match by scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-18.

The turning point of the match came in the late stages of the first set. With the Aggies ahead 23-18, Marywood went on an 8-1 run to take the set 26-24. After a line violation gave the Pacers the go-ahead point, Ashley Zalewski punched the win with a fervent kill on a well-placed volley from DeIulio. Zalewski finished with nine kills.

In the second set, Marywood broke out of the gate with a 9-2 lead, steamrolling to a 25-11 win. A late Aggie comeback did not impose the impassioned Pacer crowd in the third set, and Kane's squad walked away with a 25-18 victory.

Marywood looks to continue on the right foot when it travels to The Catholic University of America tournament in Washington, D.C. this coming weekend. In addition to facing off against the Cardinals, Marywood will face Randolph College, Marymount University and New Jersey City University.
