Volleyball Comes Up Fruitless at CUA Invitational

Washington, D.C. - Marywood University dropped all four games of the Catholic University of America Invitational this weekend to remain winless on the season. The Pacers lost to Marymount (Va.), Bridgewater (Va.), Otterbein, and Wesley. 

In the first match to the Saints Friday, the Pacers lost in four sets by scores of 25-10, 25-14, 24-26, 25-18. Both Maddie Lavery and Mallorie Deschaine finished with 14 kills apiece. Danielle DeIulio made 33 assists. Shayna Finn added 16 digs. The Pacers struggled at the net with 16 block errors. 

Marywood lost the nightcap to Bridgewater in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-9. Deschaine led the Pacers with nine kills, more than half the Pacers' total for the match. DeIulio provided 12 assists. Finn added 10 digs, and Deschaine tacked on nine digs. Amanda Khozouri had all three of the Pacers' service aces. Lauren Besecker and Lavery both had two solo blocks. 

A zero attack percentage plagued the Pacers Saturday in a three-set loss to Otterbein by scores of 25-9, 25-8, 25-11. The Cardinals (7-2) shot an astounding .372 for the match. Of Marywood's 13 kills, no player finished above four. DeIulio supplied 12 assists, and Finn made 13 digs. Both Khozouri and Deschaine added nine digs. Megan Weeks blocked two shots. 

The Pacers closed out the Invitational by winning a set against Wesley. The Wolverines prevailed 23-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-23. Wesley (5-4) came back from an eight-point deficit to claim the fourth set and ultimately the match. Marywood shot .213 on the attack to Wesley's .232. Lavery led the way with 20 kills, tying now-assistant coach Ashley Zalewski `15 (three times) for third-most in a four-set match in modern program history. Deschaine sported a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs. DeIulio made 29 assists. Finn garnered a season-best 22 digs, and Khozouri tacked on 10 digs. Marywood blocked nine shots, including four solo from Weeks and three solo from Besecker. 

Marywood looks for its first win when it opens in Colonial States Athletic Conference schedule against Neumann at home Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
