Men's Soccer Wins Third in a Row with 4-1 Victory over Gwynedd Mercy

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University picked up its third straight men's soccer victory with a 4-1 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University Wednesday in the rain. The Pacers move above .500 for the third time all year at a 6-5 overall, 3-2 Colonial States Athletic Conference mark.

Leading 2-1, the Pacers tacked on two goals within 77 seconds of each other against a 10-man Griffins squad.

Zac Lloyd added to his total with his sixth goal of the year to kick off the Pacers' scoring. In the 25th minute, Capers Borders hit a strong ball into the box that was blocked by a Griffin midfielder. Jon Dinnell dished the ball out to Lloyd, who sent it past the keeper from 15 yards out.

Borders scored for the second straight contest in the 51st minute to extend the lead to 2-0. Lloyd heeled the ball to Borders, who sprinted down the field on a breakaway chance. Borders crossed the ball to Ryan Atcavage. Upon controlling possession, Atcavage heeled the ball back to Borders, who put it into the net from 12 yards.

Gwynedd Mercy was quick to strike back, tallying its lone goal in the 53rd minute. Cole Smith sent a long cross from the right sideline to the far post for Matt Bachmann to put it past the Pacers' keeper.

Marywood tacked on an own goal in the 80th minute. Dylan McMahon kicked a ball from the left sideline that deflected off of a Griffins' defender's knee and ricocheted to the near side of goal.

McMahon capped the scoring in the 81st minute. On a set piece, Alex Buccholz struck a ball into the box for McMahon to tap in out of a scrum from two yards away on the far side.

Pacers' goalkeeper Michael Mejia made eight saves in 85 minutes. His counterpart Ryan Oyola made five stops.

Despite the loss, Gwynedd Mercy outshot the Pacers by a 20-16 margin. Both teams had nine shots on target.

Marywood will host Rosemont College on Saturday at noon.
