Neumann's Attack Proves Too Strong for Pacers

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University was unable to take care of Neumann University at home in a three-set loss Thursday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's volleyball action. The Pacers fall to 5-15 overall with a 4-2 conference record. The Pacers slip to fifth in the CSAC standings.

The Pacers fell to the Knights by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-20.

Peri Sheerin tallied 12 kills with just three errors on 27 attempts. She finished with more than half of the team's kills en route to a .333 attack percentage.

Both Gabriella Santos and Katherine McGrath finished with four total blocks. Santos had four block assists, and McGrath garnered the team's lone solo block.

Annie Heyen helped with 18 assists on the night. She had a team-high three aces.

Defensively, Sam Compton and Jordan Vossler finished with 11 digs. Brenna Kelley had nine digs.

Marywood shot .084 for the contest. Neumann committed 13 errors for a .265 hitting percentage.

For Neumann, Melanie Malseed enjoyed an all-around effort with 15 kills and just one error. Along with her .412 attack percentage, she also tallied eight digs and three aces.
Rachel Cray made 29 assists, and Bianca Harbold racked up 10 digs.

The Pacers had a 7-5 lead in the first set before the Knights stormed back with six points off of Malseed's serves. After Marywood managed to cut the deficit to 11-10, Neumann put together another six-point run on Bridger Lozier's serves. Marywood brought it back to 19-16 but Neumann finished with six of the last seven points of the set.

???????Marywood rushed out to a 5-1 lead in the second set before Neumann evened it at six apiece. The set was tied at 11 all when Harbold engineered another six-point streak. The closest Marywood came the rest of the way was within three points.

In the third set, the Pacers did not get quite the same advantageous start, yet managed to tie the set at 10-10. Tied at 14, Malseed had one of her many kills on the night.

???????Marywood seeks to get back to the win column Saturday when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy University at 4:00 pm.
