Women's Soccer Wins 2-0 at Notre Dame

Baltimore, Md. - Julie Youngman and Natalia Colasurdo each scored a goal as Marywood University dominated host Notre Dame of Maryland University in shots but escaped Maryland with a 2-0 CSAC win over the Gators thanks to some brilliant play from the hosts' netminder Loren Pardoe.

Marywood improved to 8-6 (7-1 CSAC) on the year, while Notre Dame of Maryland fell to 2-10 (1-7 CSAC).

Despite a fast start and eventually outshooting the Gators 34-6 (22-3 on goal), Marywood needed both of those goals to earn their third straight league win and fourth in a row overall.

Youngman took a Megan Swiecicki feed from inside the right corner of the six yard box, had her original one-time shot deflect off a defender, grabbed the loose ball, spun and beat Pardoe to make it 1-0 in favor of Marywood just 2:52 into the contest.

But that would be all Marywood would do for 62 more minutes, as Pardoe and the Gators' defense kept Marywood off the board despite numerous chances, posts and close calls.

In the 65th minute, Renae Moken's blast from 30 yards out rang off the crossbar and bounced down to an on-coming Colasurdo, who headed the ball over Pardoe for the Pacers' insurance goal, her first of the year.  Colasurdo became the 14th Marywood player to record a goal on the year and the 19th to record a point as Marywood, whose scoring offense ranks 5th in the country, continues to show it's diversity.

Aly Moyer and the rest of the Pacers' defense - Dani Rill, Madison Daches, Emily Kotcho and Molly Sobolewski - limited the Gators to just one good opportunity that came early in the first half.  On that play, Moyer got a tip on a long shot then had to hustle back to swat the ball away from the goal line before it crossed over.  Moyer ended with three stops to preserve the clean sheet.

Pardoe made 19 saves to keep the hosts within striking distance for much of the afternoon.

Marywood travels to Gwynedd Mercy University Tuesday night (7:00 pm) for a CSAC showdown.
