Men's Soccer Upsets First-Place Cabrini on Lloyd's Strike

Radnor, Pa. – Zac Lloyd headed in the lone goal to give Marywood University a 1-0 upset victory over Cabrini University Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer. The Pacers handed the Cavaliers their first conference loss of the season.

With 15 points, Marywood (8-6, 5-3) punched its ticket to the CSAC playoffs after a one-year absence. Marywood faces Neumann (13 points) Tuesday and currently hang onto the No. 4 seed. The Pacers reached the CSAC championship game in five of the past seven seasons.

Lloyd headed the winning tally in the 23rd minute. Dylan McMahon hit a long cross to the far post to set up the header. Lloyd broke the school record with his fifth game-winning goal of the season.

The Marywood defense held Cabrini without a shot on goal until the 74th minute. Michael Mejia made a save on Jared Irwin to hold onto the lead. In the 86th, Mejia stopped a John Griffin attempt to ensure his fourth clean sheet.

The Pacers' victory ends a three-game slide at the hands of the Cavaliers.

Cabrini outshot the Pacers by a 13-8 margin; however, the Pacers maintained a 3-2 edge in shots on target. Cabrini doubled Marywood 4-2 in corner kicks.

A win over Neumann on Tuesday would provide Marywood with a home game for the CSAC first round. The Pacers host the Knights at 7:00 pm. The Pacers finish their regular season Saturday against Alvernia University.
