Volleyball Downs Mighty Macs for Sixth Straight Win

Immaculata, Pa. – Marywood University scored its sixth consecutive win in a 3-1 victory over Immaculata University Monday in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference women's volleyball showdown. The Pacers move into third place with two CSAC matches remaining.
 
The Pacers won by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 17-25, 31-29. Marywood shot .120 to the Mighty Macs' .166.
 
Peri Sheerin factored in offensively with 16 kills and a .238 attack percentage. Both Sam Compton and Gabriella Santos finished with nine kills.
 
Jordan Vossler had a team-high 23 digs. Compton finished with 22 digs and five aces. Brenna Kelley had 13 digs, and Katie Bilello contributed with 10 digs.
 
Annie Heyen produced 40 assists and 12 digs. Fresh off her CSAC Defensive Player of the Week nod, Mikayla Attwood blocked two shots, made eight kills, and boasted a team-best .316 attack percentage.
 
For the Mighty Macs, Gabrielle Guerrera posted 10 kills. Arden Vizzard tallied 20 digs, and Shelby Belk blocked five shots.
 
In the first set, Immaculata led 20-17 before a pair of Katherine McGrath aces helped allow the team to tie the score. The Macs were two points from victory before the Pacers reeled off four straight to close the match. Sheerin clinched the victory with a kill from Heyen.
 
The second set's momentum was ignited by a six-point run on Vossler's serves to up the lead to 11-6. Immaculata tied the match at 14 and 20 all. Again, Marywood finished on a run, winning the final five points on Bilello serves. Vossler had a kill to finish the set.
 
Belk and Vizzard helped the Mighty Macs jump out to a large lead in the third.
 
The fourth set seemed to be in the bag for the Pacers after 10 straight points, off of Kelley serves, for a 15-5 lead. Marywood was two points from winning the match at 23-17 when Vizzard pioneered a six-point run that tied the game at 23-23 on an attack error. The teams went back and forth for six points with an even 29-29 stalemate. Sheerin produced a kill to take the lead at 30-29. McGrath tallied match point.
 
Marywood travels to Radnor, Pa. to take on Rosemont and Cabrini on Wednesday night.
