Martine Sends Field Hockey to CSAC Playoffs

La Plume, Pa. – Marywood University clinched the No. 3 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey tournament with a 1-0 victory over Keystone College on Wednesday night. With a Cedar Crest loss to Neumann earlier in the day, the game decided the final team to qualify for the postseason.

Natalie Martine scored the game-winning goal in the 31st minute. She won the ball out of a scrum and shot to the center of the cage for her second of the year.

The Pacers will travel to second-seeded Cabrini University on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 pm. Marywood and Immaculata ended the season with the same conference record but Marywood (5-11, 4-3 CSAC) earned the No. 3 seed by virtue of a head-to-head 3-2 win over Immaculata University on Oct. 15.

Top-seeded Gwynedd Mercy faces the Mighty Macs in the other semifinal.

Martine kept a Shelby Croasdale shot from tying the game with a defensive save in the 41st minute. The Pacers' defense held the Giants to without a shot on goal for the final 29 minutes.

Kerri Mountz finished with five saves in the shutout effort. Emily Hawkins stopped four for the Giants.

Marywood had a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners. The Pacers outshot the Giants by a 12-7 margin, but Keystone edged 6-5 in shots on goal.
