Marywood Rolls CCNY in ECAC Opener, Faces Springfield Sunday

Springfield, Mass. - Julie Youngman had nine points on four goals and an assist and Marywood University rolled past the City College of New York 9-1 in the opening round of the ECAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Pacers (13-6) move on to take on overall top seed and host Springfield College (14-6-1) Sunday. Springfield had a first round bye.

The Pacers wasted little time putting this game away as they scored four times in the opening 5:22 of Saturday's contest.  Megan Swiecicki followed a Youngman shot that was saved and put it home 2:32 into the contest.  Jackie VonItter took a cross from Molly Sobolewski and ripped a one-time shot to the near post, which deflected across the goal mouth and into the far post netting at the 4:14 mark.

Twenty one seconds later Youngman notched her first of three straight goals for the Pacers.  She took a feed at the bottom of the circle and went on a breakaway down the middle of the field before finishing it to make it 3-0 Marywood.  Youngman finished a shot from Swiecicki at the 5:22 mark, then after 23 minutes of scoreless action put another one home after she finished her own saved shot on another breakaway in the 29th minute.

Just over a minute later Taylor Yacuboski put home a cross from Cara Romaniello, and Marywood went up 7-0 11 seconds later when Romaniello found Youngman for the junior's fourth and final tally of the afternoon.

In the second half, Michaela Smith finished a beautiful cross from Olivia Minnitti in the 67th minute and Grace Feeser finished a Sam Lindquist feed in the 84th, but the Beavers (8-6-2) ruined Marywood's shutout bid with a penalty kick goal from Gabrielle Duchaussee with 6:01 left in the game.

Marywood outshot CCNY 42-3 on the afternoon (23-2 on goal).  Haley Taylor made one stop for Marywood as she shared time in net with starter Aly Moyer and Bella DiToma.

The Pacers and Pride will play at 12:00 pm with the winner advancing to next weekend's semifinal round at a site yet to be determined.
