Ringland’s Game-High Not Enough in Pacers’ Loss at Neumann

Aston, Pa. – Jeremy Ringland had a game-high 23 points but it was not enough as Marywood fell to Neumann 84-71 in the CSAC opener for both teams. The Pacers dropped to 1-1 (0-1 CSAC) on the year while the Knights improved to 3-0 (1-0).

Ringland's 23 came on 10 of 19 shooting from the floor and a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.  Jeremy DeGroot added 14 for the Pacers on 5 of 10 shooting, which included three treys. Neumann had four players in double figures on the night led by Aaron Johnson-Chavis' team-high 22.

The hosts had a 21-6 advantage in free throws made as they took 29 to Marywood's nine for the game.  Neumann was just 1 of 10 from beyond the arc for the game.  Marywood made nine threes, but their advantage on the free throw line proved to be enough for the league win.

A slow start offensively for both teams gave Neumann a 6-4 lead after five minutes of play.  Marwood would go up 15-10 on a Thomas Swartz three with 11:02 to go in the opening half, and a traditional three-point play from Joey Monaghan would put Marywood up eight moments later.

Neumann closed that gap to a two-point deficit (20-18) over the next two minutes, but Tom DeFilippo put Marywood back up five with 7:54 to go on a three-pointer.

The Pacers went up 28-18 with 6:38 to go on a three from DeGroot, but Neumann held the Pacers to just two points the rest of the half and eventually claimed a 32-30 lead at the break.

James Curley nailed a long ball 2:50 into the second to get Marywood back to within one, 38-37, but Neumann answered with a 13-2 run to extend their lead to 51-39.

Marywood responded with a run of their own, outscoring the hosts 13-4 over the next two minutes to get back to within three, but the Knights kept the Pacers from taking the lead and eventually used the charity stripe to seal the win.

Marywood is back in action this weekend against Wilkes and King's in the annual Cross Country Challenge, which will be hosted by The University of Scranton.  Game time for the Pacers on both Saturday and Sunday is 2:00 pm at the Royals' John Long Center.
