Marywood Drops CSAC Title Match to Cabrini, 2-1

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University scored early but Cabini University scored two unaswered goals as the Cavaliers claimed the 2017 CSAC Championship with a 2-1 win over the Pacers Saturday afternoon in Scranton. Cabrini (13-2-4) earned the CSAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament while Marywood (12-6) will await a possible ECAC bid.

Megan Swieicki scored in the 14th minute off a feed from Renae Moken to put the Pacers up 1-0.  Marywood had numerous other chances and twice hit a post in the first half, but were unable to find another goal.  In the 25th minute, Cabrini's Kelsee Tironi beat Aly Moyer inside the six on a ball served directly from a direct kick outside the 18 yard box by Marisa Christensen.

At the 64 minute mark, Rachel Wood beat Moyer after Taylor Tralie served in a corner kick.

Despite dominating shots 19-8 (10-5 on goal), Marywood could not find the equalizer.  Gabby LeGendre, the Championship game MVP, made nine saves in goal for Cabrini to get the win.

The apparent equalizer for Marywood from Ashley Kruchinsky with just over seven minutes left was called back due to offsides.

For Marywood, it was their second runner-up finish in program history (2009).  They also fell to Cabrini that year.  The Cavaliers earned their 10th conference championship and seventh in the last nine years, with only Centenary (2010) and Marywood (2016) interupting that streak.

The ECAC tournament field will be announced late Monday.
