Women's Basketball Falls Short at Lebanon Valley

Annville, Pa. – Marywood University let a halftime advantage slip for the second consecutive game in a 64-56 loss to Lebanon Valley College on Sunday in non-conference women's basketball. The Pacers slip to 1-6 on the season, while the Flying Dutchmen advance to 7-3 on the year.

Gab Giordano led the Pacers with 15 points and seven rebounds. Erika Bistran reached double figures for the fifth time this season with 14 points.

Natasha Hessling collected a team-best eight rebounds to go with a 12-point effort.

Marywood had a 37-32 advantage at halftime. The Flying Dutchmen held the Pacers to just 19 points in the second half.

Lebanon Valley received 24 points from Becky Evans. Her teammate Anne Lehr provided 14 points.

The Pacers came out of the break strong to take their largest lead of the game when Catie Nealon made a layup to go ahead 43-34 with 7:22 left in the third quarter. Lebanon Valley responded with eight straight points. After Giordano hit a jumper to push the lead back up to three, Evans tied the game at 45 apiece on a 3-pointer from Jen Kaufman.

Over two minutes of scoreless play came to a close when Veronica Venezia gave the Lebanon Valley a lead.

Bistran evened the score at 51-51 with 7:31 remaining in the contest. Again, the Flying Dutchmen put together six unanswered points. Hessling cut the Pacers' deficit to one (57-56) with 1:56 remaining. Mealey tallied a layup to kickstart a seven-point run to close out the contest.

After being nearly doubled by Misericordia in rebounds earlier in the week, Marywood topped LVC off of the glass by a 41-28 margin. The Pacers shot 39.3 percent to the Cougars' 42.6 percent. Turnovers were the story of the game with the Pacers doubling the Dutchmen (20-10) in giveaways.

Marywood is idle for finals and will host Susquehanna University on Saturday, Dec. 16.
