Men's Basketball Rolls Penn College, 76-56

Williamsport, Pa. – Marywood University hit six three pointers in the opening 10:47 of action and never looked back as the Pacers cruised to a 76-56 win over Penn College Saturday afternoon in the Crosstown Challenge hosted by Lycoming.

Marywood extended their non-conference record to 4-0 on the season as the Pacers improved to 5-2.  The Wildcats fell to 1-10 with the loss.

The Pacers led the Wildcats 20-8 with 9:13 to go in the opening half after Jack DeGroot hit the Pacers' sixth three of the game.  After Donovan Catchings' layup to open the game, Marywood's next six buckets all came from beyond the arc.

Ahead 8-6 in the early going, Marywood went on a 9-0 run that extended their lead to 17-6.  After a Penn bucket made it 17-8, five straight points from DeGroot made it 22-8 in favor of the Pacers and they eventually went into the break with a 32-17 lead.

The Pacers finished the first half 7 of 13 (53.8%) from three point range while the Wildcats were 0-of-6 from beyond the arc and shot just 29.2% from the floor.  Marywood hit over 40% of their first half shots.

Thomas Swartz had 15 points in the first half alone on 5 of 7 shooting (3 of 4 from three point range) and a pair of free throws.  DeGroot finished the first half with six points while several others chipped in three apiece.
Marywood extended their lead through the opening five minutes of the second half and had the Wildcats doubled-up (48-24) with 14:40 to go.

While their three-point percentage went down in the second half, Marywood managed to nail six more from beyond the arc to give them 13 total for the game.  Penn College, meanwhile, finished just 4 of 20 from long distance.

Swartz finished with a game high 21 points while James Curley reached double figures as well with 11 as 13 of 16 rostered players registered points as all saw action in the Pacers' win. Catchings finished with a game best six assists while Joey Monaghan had seven points and a game high nine rebounds.

James Bullock (12 points) and Ryan Lockman (10 points, 8 rebounds) led Penn College.

The Pacers will take on the host Warriors Sunday at 1:00 pm.  The Warriors are 9-0 on the year and take on York (N.Y.) today at 3:00 pm.
