Strong Second Half Lifts #9 Lycoming Over Marywood, 82-69

Williamsport, Pa. – A strong second half effort lifted #9 Lycoming College to an 82-69 win over Marywood Sunday afternoon in the Championship game of the Crosstown Challenge, hosted by the Warriors. Lycoming improved to 11-0 on the year while handing Marywood (5-3) their first non-conference loss of the season.

Kendall Farrell (14 points), James Curley (11 points, 9 rebounds) and Thomas Swartz (10 points) all reached double digits for the Pacers. Lycoming's Chris Wallace led three Warriors in double figures with a game-high 16.

Marywood hung tough with the Warriors in the first half.  Both team struggled from the field as Lycoming connected on 32% of their shots while holding Marywood to 24.2% shooting.  Neither team could get hot from behind the arc either, as Lycoming hit just a third of their three-point attempts but managed to limit Marywood to 27.3% shooting from three-point range. Lycoming was 4 of 12 from long range while Marywood, who hit 13 threes in their win yesterday, was just 3 of 11 in the opening half.

Lycoming held their biggest lead of the half (32-22) with 2:05 to play but a trio of free throws from the Pacers got them back to with a single digit deficit.

A quick 9-3 run from the hosts over the opening three minutes of the second half gave them a double-digit lead back.  The would extend that run to 14-5 by the time five minutes had gone by in the second, taking a 48-32 lead.

From there, the Warriors maintained a double-digit advantage en route to the 13-point win.

Marywood held a slight 40-39 edge in rebounds. Both teams had better second half shooting percentages with Marywood hitting 43.3% of their second half tries (33.3% from 3-point range) and Lycoming going 51.7% from the floor.  Marywood did limit the Warriors to just 1 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc in the second.

Marywood is off until December 30 when they will host Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) at 3:00 pm.
