Pacers Suffer Loss, 76-64, to Widener

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University was unable to capitalize on an early lead in a 76-64 loss to Widener University on Tuesday in women's basketball. The Pride took advantage of turnovers and used a solid effort from the bench to deliver the Pacers' seventh loss of the season.

Erika Bistran scored 20 points to lead the Pacers. Natasha Hessling finished with 10 rebounds. Alyssa Olson tallied nine points.

Gab Giordano totaled 14 points and fell short by just a rebound a double-double for the second straight game. She also added five assists.

Widener featured four players in double figures, notably led by a speedy Madison Ireland with 16 points and eight assists. Allison Gallagher and Devan Rimmer both totaled 13 points. Julia Venturelli had 11 points.

Marywood shot 30.4 percent from the floor, and Widener made 34.8 percent of its shots. Marywood won the rebound differential 53-41; however, the Pride's 19-7 points off turnovers made up the difference in the game.

Widener committed just eight turnovers. Marywood doubled them with 16 giveaways.

The Pacers used a 10-point run to take a 13-7 lead on a pair of free throws by Olson. Widener chipped away at the lead but Olson made a layup off of a backdoor Giordano pass to head into the break with a 21-20 lead.

After Widener took a quick lead, Marissa Fernandez-Tierney evened the score. Giordano gave the Pacers their last lead of the game (28-26) on a layup. Widener scored 12 consecutive points, only to be bookended by a Hessling layup that trimmed the Pacers' deficit to single digits (38-30) before the half.

Marywood came out of halftime with a hot hand when Catie Nealon drained a 3-pointer and Hessling connected on a layup to make it a one possession game. The Pride responded with an eight-point slide to extend the lead to double digits.

The Pacers will enjoy the holidays before heading to Nashville for the Music City Invitational on Dec. 29-30. Marywood faces Wheaton (Ill.) and Keene State.
