Marywood Holds Off Cairn for First CSAC Win

Scranton, Pa. - Jeremy Ringland scored a game high 24 points and had five blocks to lift Marywood University (4-2) to its first CSAC win of the season. The Pacers outlasted Cairn University 77-73 in the league battle. Marywood improves to 1-2 in CSAC action with the win while the Highlanders fell to 2-3 (0-1 CSAC).

Ringland's game-high point effort came on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor and 9-of-13 shooting from the line.  He led three Pacers in double figures. Thomas Swartz added 11, and Tone Cockrell contributed 10. Cairn was led by 19 points from Malachi Hall and 17 from Julian Collazo.

Both teams shot around the 50 percent mark from the floor from the game. Cairn used 58 percent shooting in the second half to climb back into the contest after being down 14 (39-25) at the break.  Marywood shot over 48 percent for the game.

Marywood raced out to a 6-0 lead and never relinquished it. The Pacers went up 12 (18-6) after a three from Cockrell with just over seven minutes gone and led by as many as 21 (39-18) in the first half.

The second half saw Cairn attack the paint with success and the Highlanders were able to climb back to within a single-digit deficit with less than five to play. A three from Josh Decker with 24 ticks left brought the Highlanders to within one (74-73) with had a chance to take the lead with 17 seconds left. The Pacers received a huge block from Ringland, and James Curley rebounded and sank both freebies after being fouled to seal the win for Marywood. 

Marywood returns to action December 16 at the Crosstown Challenge hosted by Lycoming College. The Pacers will take on Penn College Saturday and Lycoming Sunday. Both game times are set for 1:00 pm.
