Women's Basketball Slips in Second Half to Cougars

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University was outscored in the second half to fall to Misericordia University 54-42 Wednesday in a non-conference women's basketball matchup. After trailing by nine at halftime, the Cougars stormed back to outscore the Pacers 32-11 in the second half. 

Gab Giordano led the Pacers with 19 points. She made four 3-pointers and hit seven baskets. Erika Bistran also contributed 11 points. 

Aryah Aungst had a team-high seven rebounds. 

Paige Wampole posted a double-double for the Cougars with 10 points and 12 rebounds. 

It was a tale of two halves. Marywood made 35.3 percent of its shots in the first half and just 15.3 percent in the second. Conversely, Misericordia made 21.4 percent from the field in the first and 35.4 percent for the second. The Cougars (27.4%) edged the Pacers (26.7%) in shooting. 

Misericordia dominated the glass, topping the Pacers in rebounds by a 64-37 clip. 

Marywood closed out the first half on an eight-point run. With 32 seconds, Bistran collected an offensive rebound and backed up to the arc where she hit a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired. On the next possession, Giordano bulldozed a defender before laying back to a 3-pointer at the buzzer. 

The Cougars held the Pacers to two points in the fourth quarter. 

Marywood is idle until it travels to Annville, Pa. to take on Lebanon Valley on Sunday.
