Men's Tennis Drops Opener to Lycoming, 5-4

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University's Men's Tennis team dropped their 2017-2018 season opener 5-4 to visiting Lycoming College Monday afternoon in non-conference action. Lycoming improved to 1-1 with the win.

Lycoming got off to a strong start in doubles defeating the Pacers 8-3 in the first flight and 8-0 in the second. Jake Jacobs and Ulises Munoz-Santos won the third for the Pacers by default.

The Pacers attempted a late come back with wins by Cole Strange and Rick Sun in singles. Cole Strange defeated Son Phan (6-1, 6-2) at three singles while Rick Sun was successful over Duc Dang (6-3, 6-0) in the fifth flight. Jake Jacobs won by default in the last set of competition.

Mitch Wheary (6-1, 6-4) and Rob Smith (6-3, 6-1) continued Lycoming's success in singles competition with victories over Steven Price and Bryon Scholl in the first and second flight, respectively. Alhoun Lundy sealed Lycoming's Victory defeating John Shebby (6-1, 6-4).

The Pacers will be back in action this weekend at the Kings College Invitational Saturday and Sunday (9/16, 9/17). Matches will be played at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
